Together we make learning an adventure

Y6 PGL Residential Visit 2018

On 4th June, Year six went to PGL, Caythorpe Court, Lincolnshire for a week of outdoor adventure. Activities included: high ropes, abseiling, giant swing, rifles, archery and fencing. The children had a fantastic week and their behaviour was impeccable from start to finish. Well done Year six for making it such an enjoyable trip. We hope that Year 6 will all download a copy of the slideshow to keep and enjoy sharing it with family and friends. A huge thank you to all of the staff who came away with us and helped to make it such a successful trip.

Messages from PGL

Monday 10.45am - We have arrived at Belton House already after an excellent journey. We are going for a walk around the grounds to explore!

Monday 2.30pm - We had a lovely lakeside walk and a relaxing lunch. The children have had a fantastic time playing in the adventure playground this afternoon. We are just about to set off from here to PGL. Very exciting!

Monday 4.00pm - We are at PGL! All of the children have been allocated their rooms and activity groups for the week. We are currently being given a guided tour of the site. Behaviour has been exemplary throughout the day so far. Well done Fleckney!

Monday 7.40pm - Dinner was delicious. Fish fingers and chips followed by jam doughnuts. Everyone ate well! We are off to a camp fire now for our evening entertainment.

Monday 10.00pm - Everyone is tucked up in bed after a fun evening singing songs and listening to stories. Goodnight everyone.

Tuesday 7.00am - Good morning. Everyone seems to have slept well - one of the best first nights we have ever had at PGL. The children are chatting quietly in their rooms - one or two are still asleep! We are off to breakfast at 8am.

Tuesday 10.40am - Breakfast was great. Our children are excited about their first activities. This morning we have groups abseiling, on the high ropes and experiencing the sensory trail. Everyone is trying their best and having a brilliant time

Tuesday 2.35pm - After a very successful morning of activities, it is more of the same this afternoon. All of the groups have archery this afternoon too. The sun has come out and the weather is glorious.

Tuesday 5.30pm - This afternoon's sessions have been great fun. It is such a privilege to watch so many children conquering fears and achieving more than they expected to. The staff could not be more impressed with the behaviour, attitude and togetherness of this group of children. Getting ready for dinner soon - the children are eating really well so far.

Tuesday 9.30pm - This evening's entertainment was called "wacky races". All of the children joined in with a great sense of enthusiasm and they have had a real giggle. The children are in their rooms now getting ready for bed. Lots of the children have commented that they can't believe we have only been here for just over a day. They have achieved so much already. Looking forward to another full day tomorrow.

Wednesday 7.30am - Good morning. Many of the children are still asleep and they were brilliant overnight again. We asked them last night who was having a brilliant time and every single child said yes. We are off to breakfast soon - going to have to wake some of them up!

Wednesday 11.00am - This morning we have raft building, trapeze, giant swing and zip wire. The group who went on the giant swing straight after breakfast were particularly brave. Everyone is having a fantastic morning. It feels like we have been here for a week already as we have packed so much in!

Wednesday 3.30pm - Lunch was delicious. The children are out on activities again this afternoon. Some groups are orienteering and others are rifle shooting. We have been very lucky with the weather so far. Our staff are incredibly impressed with the immaculate behaviour of Fleckney children!

Wednesday 6.15pm - The children have excelled themselves this afternoon with their bravery and positive attitudes. We have eaten dinner already - chicken nuggets and potato wedges or lasagne. Tonight, we are playing a game of cluedo for our evening entertainment. The children are looking forward to it.

Wednesday 10.15pm - Cluedo was great fun - the children walked for miles around the grounds solving clues. Everyone tucked up in bed now - good night

Thursday 7.00am - Another excellent night. The staff have not heard a thing from any of our children between 11pm and 6am all week with many asleep by 10 and sleeping past 7! It is a big part of why they are having such a great time. We are going to breakfast at 7:40 and then getting ready for another day of exciting activities.

Thursday 11.30am - This morning, all four groups are climbing Jacob's Ladder and learning survival skills in the woods. So many children have overcome a fear of heights this week and suprised themselves with what they have been able to achieve.

Thursday 4.45pm - This afternoon, we have groups doing fencing, zip wire, rifle shooting and vertical challenge. The children are also excited about their trip to the PGL shop after dinner. We may be doing some packing later. One or two of the boys rooms could take some sorting!

Thursday 9.30pm - The shop was a big hit! Lots of sweets, slinkies, teddies, rubbers and pencils have been bought. Our evening entertainment - Passport to the World - was great fun. The children have all had a brilliant day and are looking forward to their last two activities tomorrow morning. Everyone is getting ready for bed now - excited to see everyone at home tomorrow afternoon.

Friday 7.00am - Good morning! The children slept well again. We are going to be out of our rooms by 8am and off for breakfast. Final activities this morning include: giant swing, fencing, raft building and orienteering. Back at school for 4pm!

Friday 12.40pm - Activities this morning were great fun. The children are a bit sad that their PGL experience is coming to an end. However, they are all looking forward to getting home. Lunch in a few minutes and then we are playing some games while we wait for the coach.

Friday 2.20pm - The coach is just leaving PGL. The satnav is saying 15:40 with traffic so on course to be home by 4pm.
