Governor Training
There is a variety of training for Governors of all levels and experience. This can take the form of formal courses, provided by the Local Authority Governor Development Services (GDS), and ‘on the job’ internal training, mentoring and support in school.
The Training & Development Governor on the Governing Body is there to offer advice and support about training that is available and to consider the development and training needs of governors.
All new Governors are encouraged to attend the GDS Induction Course which introduces them to the key roles of the School Governor:
- The strategic role of governors.
- Safeguarding
- How to be a ‘critical’ friend to the school.
- Ensuring accountability of the school.
- Improving standards of achievement in school.
The cost of governor training is covered within the school budget
